Birding, Wildlife & Cultural Excursions from Suklaphanta Camp

Below you will find a list of some of the full-day, half-day and shorter excursions we offer from Suklaphanta Camp:

4 hours or under:

● Guided walk along the edge of the National Park through the farmland and village along a village path, looking for open-country birds and sometimes mammals such as Jungle Cat and Asiatic Golden Jackal (2 hours).

● A trip to the Mahakali River where the 2nd longest suspension bridge in Asia stands, called the Dodhara Chadani bridge. Looking for Gulls, terns, pipits, larks and wagtails. (2-3 hours).

● A trip to Kalikich Lake and marshes looking for wetland and marshland birds (3 hrs).

● Morning half-day walk after breakfast in the National Park looking for owls, woodpeckers, warblers, minivets, hornbills etc. Spotted deer and Rhesus Macaque will be in plentiful (3-4 hours).  

4+ hours:

● Half-day safari, by jeep and on foot in the National Park (4-5 hours).

● Full-day with packed lunch to explore Ghodaghodi Lake for waterbirds and raptors and Marsh Mugger Crocodiles (7- 8 hours).

● Full-day jeep safari in the National Park with packed lunch in search of birds and mammals (8-10 hours).

Our Itineraries (in brief) 

Your 7-night stay – a sample programme (please click here for the detailed description of this programme):

Day 1 – Arrive at Suklaphanta Wildlife Camp by land or air. Explore the farmland and the edge of the National Park.

Day 2 – Full-day jeep safari in the National Park with a packed lunch in search of birds and mammals, including visiting Kalikich Lake and marshes looking for wetland and marshland birds.

Day 3 – Half-day safari, by jeep and on foot, in the National Park, and return to the camp for lunch. In the afternoon you may wish to enjoy some afternoon birding around the grounds or take a village and cultural tour, visiting a local house and family.

Day 4 – Full-day with packed lunch to explore Ghodaghodi Lake for waterbirds and raptors and Marsh Mugger Crocodiles.

Day 5 – Morning half-day walk after breakfast in the National Park looking for owls, woodpeckers, warblers, minivets, hornbills etc. Spotted deer and Rhesus Macaque will be in plentiful! In the afternoon you may then wish to be driven by a guide the Mahakali River where the 2nd longest suspension bridge in Asia stands (Dodhara Chadani bridge) where we can look for gulls, terns, pipits, larks and wagtails.

Day 8 – Depart Suklaphanta Camp by land or air.

(NB. All the full day drives will be organised to visit different areas of the National Park and will be planned according to the species you wish to target. Half day drives cover less distance, and some time is also lost travelling to and from the camp, although we will still be able to enjoy species seen en route!)
